What is Early Act?

Early Act is the Elementary School version of Rotary for children in Kindergarten throughout the fifth grade.

Traditionally, the club will meet once per month (after school, or during a designated club or lunch period.) Meetings should be no more than 45 minutes.

Who leads the club?

The Club Adult Leader should be a faculty or staff member of the school, assisted by a member of the sponsoring club. Staff members and Rotarians working in Early Act must have a Rotary background check and be approved through Rotary Youth Protection.

Service project at each meeting.

To instill a sense of volunteerism and purpose, develop services projects that can be completed in a 45-minute period. Here are some examples that work well:

  • Cards for veterans & nursing home residents at Holidays and Veterans Day.
  • Helping the custodian with trash after / at the end of school.
  • Pulling weeds and beautifying school grounds.
  • Collecting canned foods for local food pantries.
  • Raising funds at Christmas for local families / veterans in need.
  • Hygiene care packages for local homeless shelters, blessing boxes, churches, food pantries, school nurses.

Kids love food! Most schools will help with this. Speak with the school cafeteria head about the Virginia Dept. of Education feeding program for this option.

Sponsoring Clubs should budget to help Early Act clubs with project supplies (cards, crayons, magic markers, scissors, t-shirts, etc.). Suggested amount is $500.
